Viajo Del Carmen
The bus stop at the border. Make sure you change some money before you get here. It is a long way to Flores and the next bank.
The bus can get a bit crowded as every single person waiting will get on even if it means getting on the roof. They travel every 2 hours so the best thing to do is wait for the next one and get yourself jammed in the back seat before everyone starts getting on. This may mean doing a little bit of travelling before you actually leave, as the bus needs to fill up with gas and it makes a couple of trips down to the border to pick up people. It is not a good idea to wait at the border as all the seats are taken by the time it gets there.
They cram 4 people to a seat but they are all very happy and always laughing. The lady on the left had small silver star fillings in her teeth. I have read a lot about which bus or taxi to take and is it safe? I recommend this route because the bus is full of women and children ( and cowboys and drunks) and there is no way you are going to get kidnapped.
The only problem with this route is that the ride is a ballbreaker on hard wooden seats and lasts 6-8 hours. So take something to sit on and maybe a little bone saw to take about 10 inches off your legs.
